We don't just have wildlife at West Barn; Jamila & Bracken are our two, young Rare Breed ewes and we now have a bouncing new addition Jenna to increase our small flock; and there are Rosco & Sienna our young cats as well as 'the girls' (the chickens).
Kendal is often described as the gateway to the Lake District. Kendal is a thriving market town built around the beautiful River Kent. There is an expanding and popular farmers' market on the last Friday of every month, with a wide variety of locally produced food and products. The Brewery Arts Centre incorporates theatre, cinema, live music and is host to many special events such as Mint Fest which is becoming a huge international street theater extravaganza.
We are less than 20 minutes from the spectacular fells and mountains surrounding Windermere and Coniston and 20 minutes from the Howgills, the start of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We are a short distance from The Dales Way and the Walney to Wear cycle route. The Westmorland Showground is minutes away, hosting a wide variety of events such as The Rose Show (early July) and The Westmorland County Show (second Thursday in September). Cartmel, a beautiful old village and home to Cartmel Races (and the amazing Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding), is around 25 minutes away. Sedbergh is less than 30 minutes away, one of the three Book Towns of England, with a multitude of antique book shops and the renowned Sedbergh School. We are conveniently situated at the half way point for the Northen England Coast to Coast, Walney to Wear Cycle route and also for those travelling from London to Scotland, we are 5 minutes from Oxenholme main line train station with direct routes to London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Our Kendal B&B is less than 8 minutes from J36 M6 motorway, therefore making it ideal for those travelling up or down to Scotland. For those visiting relatives in the Westmorland General Hospital, we are less than 2 minutes away.
We offer a selection of delights for dinner (by prior arrangement only), a sample of which is located on the Dining section, however the dishes change often as we try and offer local, seasonal produce.

- We use locally sourced produce, grown naturally or Organically if possible
- We use our own naturally produced, free-range eggs, vegetables, fruit and jams, jellies and chutnies without the use of chemicals
- If we cannot buy locally, we buy British Organic or Fairtrade products
